These Are A Few Of My Favorite Lipsticks And Here’s Why

 

As a makeup lover from a young age, I have gone through various phases in my makeup obsession- from caking on foundation, concealer and a full face of makeup when I was all of 14 to not wearing makeup at all for almost an entire year when I was 18; I’ve gone through all the phases. Right now, I have reached a safe point in my makeup love when I can find the balance to wear the basic work friendly makeup(drop a line if you want to know what that looks like), to a more complex routine for formal situations.

Now enough about routines, but all of us girls have a few clothes and a few lipsticks that we keep returning to all the time, even though we might have a dozen others in our possession. The following are the five lip colors that I keep returning to time after time.

I always have two levels of applying lipstick – one in which I dot on a sheer coat of color and the other where I paint the color on. The following colours are the ones that I love to use both ways as they look beautiful both as a sheer wash and as an opaque shade.

 Maybelline Bold Matte MAT3
I love shades of orange like my favorite Bollywood heroine Sonakshi Sinha (yes, I love HER!). This Maybelline shade is one of the many oranges in my collection and is my current favorite. This lipstick is a true stark orange, but goes on rather sheer on the first few applications, but the payoff is highly buildable. It also leaves behind a beautiful stain when it goes off. The only issue that I have with the lipstick itself is that, it is quick to rub off and disappear. You will go through a tube quickly as you’ll have to keep reapplying it through the day.

Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Fuschia Fix
This one is the perfect hot pink lip color for my fair-wheatish skin tone. In addition to being the right shade to brighten up my face with one bold stroke, the lipstick is also super moisturizing and does not highlight any of the lines of my lips. It’s perfect for adding a pop of color to your face when you are looking pretty drab, otherwise.

Colorbar Matte Touch Lipstick in Bare All
This is my favourite “My lips but better” shade. Although it is said to be a “matte touch” lipstick, I’d like to clarify that it is anything but matte. The finish of the lipstick is more on the satiny side and glides on well because off that but glides off just as easily too. I love it for its pretty color and the moisturizing finish, but it is a pain to keep reapplying it often.

Lakme Crème Absolute Runway Red
This is a shade I bought after much research and deliberation, thanks to Ankita of Corallista. I was on the lookout for the perfect shade of red and finally bought this after her recommendation on a video for the best red lipstick for Indian skin tones. I tried on this color and fell in love right away. It is a true red that looks beautiful against my skin tone and does not look too stark on me. It also has a satiny finish that I love. This shade can be made more intense if it is layered with the right lip liner underneath, like my favorite Bourjois Lèvres Contour Lip Liner in Rouge Soyeux.

Revlon Colorstay Overtime in Always Sienna
In the era of liquid lipsticks, it wouldn’t be just not to mention my favorite. This lip color is a beautiful nude shade that is leaning towards a brownish tone. The liquid lipstick is drying as most tend to be, but you can gloss it up as much or as little as you want with the clear gloss on the other side. The best part about this lip color is that this is the single most long wearing lip color I have ever come across. It is one of my go to lip colors and has lasted nearly 8-9 hours on my lips while I was in college (outlasted eating, drinking and endless talking).
